Now, what is Parmesan if Parmigiano-Reggiano is the real deal? Well, it's also cheese, but that doesn't necessarily belong to the authentic Parmesan family.

Anything that is labeled as only Parmesan is simply a cheese made of cow's milk and possesses a really hard, brittle rind. About the texture, it is granular. See, I know you probably think Parmesan should come from Italy too. With all honesty, no! It's not bound to come from Italy like the authentic Parmigiano-Reggiano.
